posted on 09.26.12 at 02:01 PM EDT by (@salromano)
Square Enix comments on newly announced HD collection.

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix at last week’s Tokyo Game Show. But will it arrive in North America and Europe?

“The recent KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5 ReMIX- announcement was only for the Japanese market,” a Square Enix rep told Gematsu.

If anything changes, we were told we’ll be informed.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, which includes Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories updated in high-definition, as well as high-def cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, is due for PlayStation 3 next year in Japan. If you missed the trailer, catch it here.

    what the???

well will wait for an announcement maybe the end of this year.

also i don’t think FFX HD Edition(hopefully International too) is announce outside of japan :

    aaaaaand stil no Type-0 :(

    • zakou

If FFX HD(my fav FF along with VII and my favourite game on the PS2) isn’t released internationally i will kidnap the president of square and do bad things to him xD

      • Budgiecat

But he will know you’re coming beforehand because they have a fortune teller on staff…

  • dart2087

    Ok SE…

  • zakou

    I …. Square -_- don’t be dicks now.

  • Anime10121

People, dont worry, BBS was only announced for Japan too, until it got announced for the US.  Square always says the exact same thing with all of their releases until they decide to announce the title for the west.  Why? Well that’s anyone’s guess, but Square only confirms stuff for the west when they feel like it.  We will get this, I can guarantee that with 99.9% certainty.  The only reason I wont say 100% is because of the Tarzan thing (but that’s likely been resolved by now, considering they released the blu ray recently).

    • Budgiecat

If S-E wants to globalize a game (See LIGHTING RETURNS) they will announce it right away. They did NOT announce FF Type Zero right away and NOW look.

We’re not getting it.  Face the news. S-E is trolling as usual

      • Anime10121

Yeah, but that is Final Fantasy, this is Kingdom Hearts.  Not even the original KH 2 was confirmed for the west at the very beginning (of course we all knew it was), but they never actually confirmed it until about half a year before it released.

About Type Zero, I dont see why its so hard for some of yall to realize why that game hasnt been released, ITS ON THE FREKIN PSP.  The game would not get the sales it deserved in the west because unfortunately, the platform is riddled with pirates.  Even a PSN only release wouldnt work, because guess what, those can be pirated too.  The only feasible way we will ever see that game is if its announced for PS Vita or PS3 remaster, and considering that has yet to happen for Japan yet, we wont be seeing Type 0 in the west (yet again, unfortunately).

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is on PS3, it will get released here, because the system isn’t hacked (at least nowhere near as bad as PSP is) and people actually go out and support/buy PS3 games.  Type 0 unfortunately has no chance if Square doesnt remaster it for another system.  That is the ONLY big game that Square has passed up on localizing in the last decade or so, and now everyone and their moms think Square is “not going to localize stuff”.  That was just one type of wrong place wrong time scenario (or should I say wrong system, wrong time), as I’m sure if it had been released earlier in PSP’s life, when people were actually buying games (around CC:FFVII’s time, and no later than BBS), we would have had our precious Type 0.

        • Budgiecat

The fact that it IS Kingdom Hearts, which is owned by Disney, an American company, actually makes it even WORSE and ironic.

Oh and the PSP is dead in the West and a waste of time for S-E? Tell that to them then because they JUST released FF III last week on PSP….

          • Anime10121

Yeah Disney is an American company, but just like Square Enix is a Japanese company that has a branch here in the US, Disney is an American company that has branches elsewhere and in Japan.  Disney USA doesn’t even seem to claim Kingdom Hearts at all, besides a random Keychain or two, there is no Kingdom Hearts representation at Disney World, nor Disney Land (which is strange considering the massive success the series has had in the states).  Disney USA just basically localizes the titles for the US and makes sure that characters stay true to their original portrayals.Disney may own Kingdom Hearts, but the heart and soul of the series lies in Japan, where it was created.

You wanna know why FFIII released in the west last week (for I too had fits of rage about it being released and not Type 0, until a few people calmed me down and I thought about it rationally), its because it was a quick and easy port.  There was no work to be done at all besides resubmitting the localized text.  There arent over 30 different characters to voice (as there are in Type 0), there wasnt a long ass script to translate (as is the case with Type 0), and there isnt the risk that a completely new brand of Final Fantasy will fail sales wise with its first entry (as is the case with Type 0).

  • Raiyu

Wonder if they’re holding it off waiting to release it together with the inevitable HD 2.5 ReMIX.

At least, I hope that’s the reason.

  • HarryHodd

    Boycotting SE games if true

    Edit:it’s that easy for me.

  • DarthBrian

I’m sure we’ll get this. The KH series does too well in NA not to bring it out over here.

  • …………………………………….*siiigh* I think i’ll go get a beer.

Here’s to you Square Enix, in hope that you do give us this, or FF Type-0, or FF Versus XIII, OR anything else that you didn’t let us ‘Muricans or Europeans have.

  • Kage

You people STILL have hope in Square-Enix?

SE is a dead shell so detached from the fanbase it’s insane.

I will only buy two more games from them, Type 0 and Versus XIII, IF they ever come out.
    Nothing else.

Besides Final Mix is pretty much a legal nightmare in USA and Europe.

    • Kazziyan

      Lighten up lol.

      Too much hate.

  • Just a note guys, I wouldn’t take too much from this.

These things are usually only announced for Japan, at first, and then announced for other territories later.

    • xMCXx

Yeah, how stupid do they have to be to not release this everywhere?
      We’ll get this, surely.

    • Budgiecat

FF XIII LR announced globally lol that kinda kills your theory…

      • Not exactly. We’re talking Kingdom Hearts, not Final Fantasy. So let’s look at a the most recent Kingdom Hearts game.

KH3D was announced for US and EU on December 20, 2011. Before being shown as a demo at E3 2010, the game was announced for Japan on January 18, 2011.

        • Yeah, but these are games which were released only for Japan years ago and never saw the light of day on North American soil. What makes you think they will change their minds to bring them over now? Sure, I guess ANYTHING is possible, but I’d just consider that to be wishful thinking at this point, honestly.

        • Budgiecat

This is a DISNEY owned franchise; co-produced and developed by S-E. Why the hell would they NOT announce it globally like FF XIII LR? Disney is an AMERICAN company.
So the fact that they purposely chose NOT to announce a global release (they can announce anything; you know Square…..then take like up to7  years to actually work on it)
And they announced FF XIII LR at TGS, a Japanese only game show, globally for release. This means they know the whole world is watching them when they do this.
Never mind, we never got the Final Remixes either so this Japanese only trolling is nothing new….

          • Disney doesn’t own Kingdom Hearts, they own their characters. The series itself is still property of Square…

            • Anime10121

Actually, that’s not entirely correct, Disney actually owns everything in the game barring the Square cameos (basically meaning SRK, TAV, RAX, Organization XIII, HPO, etc. all belong to Disney, as do the worlds Destiny Islands, Hollow Bastion, Castle Oblivion etc.), as Disney owns the Intellectual Property rights to Kingdom Hearts.  I wish I could find the interview where Nomura said that all original creations in KH belongs to  Disney, but this was said back when Chain of Memories (GBA) was still unreleased.

    • Raiyu

Yeah I agree with Sal, lets not blow this out of proportions. I’m sure it’ll be announced later.

  • new_tradition

lol, damn S-E. They’re being such trolls lately. First they said they weren’t aware of a demand for Type-0 in the West, and now this? Sure, S-E. No plans for this in the future. Okay, I gotcha ;D

  • potionsmaster

I’m sure we’ll get this, don’t worry guys.

  • Aldridge517

They wouldn’t screw us over on Final Mix AGAIN would they?! That’d be really fucked up -_-

    • They did it once. What makes you think they wouldn’t do it again?

  • Amaterasu4

I’m pretty sure Square wouldn’t do something as mean as making us miss some of their coolest games in English…
*Remembers Final Fantasy Type-0, KH II Final Mix+, FF10-2 Int, FF12 Int*

  • Budgiecat

    And the Square-Enix trolling continues

  • Skelter

Nice Try Square Enix…….*continues playing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix*

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

North America announcement is probably soon.

  • Ian Manning

  • Kurai Warrior

And you guys wonder why I pretty much hate this company right now.

    • Learii

lol i already hate it since FF 12 came out

  • Bec66

Know guys please don’t freak out right now it’s japan exclusive but later on they might change their minds we just have to stay pationt

  • Revorse

    Son of an unsexy bitch!!

  • This is fake. You have no proof that this is real.If this was real it will be up on ign or other sites by now. Plus square enix loves to release the games world wide.

  • This is fake. You have no proof that this is real.If this was real it will be up on ign or other sites by now. Plus square enix loves to release the games world wide.

    • Plus why would square enix say no. If you have proof please show and i will believe you

      • IGN and other sites did not contact Square Enix. I contacted them. Simple.

We’re not exactly known for making up stories. Please take your accusations elsewhere.

        • How did you contact them. Square enix won’t reply to anyone?

          • Press relations. The gaming press have certain connections and methods of contacting publishers/developers not normally available to the public.

        • edit my bad

          • That’s kinda harsh of you to say.

If you go back and check the post Sal made when the game was announced –

“I sent off an e-mail to Square last night to see if they can confirm an English release.

            Still waiting on a response.”

They responded to his email and he posted the response. What’s so wrong about that? Obviously, he was hoping they would offically confirm an english release.

            • my previous comment was kinda harsh, and i do apologize for it.

a kingdom hearts hd collection, and it only be released in japan… do you see how stupid that sounds. kh has a much bigger fan base outside of japan, in-fact i think most of games have sold better in western territories.

its like if square-enix revealed Vs in next years tgs and said its only for japan, we all know its going to get released for na and eu.

      • Uh, they SPOKE to a rep from Square. You know, the same people IGN speaks to.

Please read up on how journalism works, thank you.

    • “Plus square enix loves to release the games world wide.”

Like Type-0, right? Square USA sees no true value in this release, obviously. The game would be far more financially viable if it include KH2 and other stuff.

    • FaithlessMr

      From Siliconera:

“Spencer’s note: During Tokyo Game Show, we asked Square Enix about Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and if the game would be coming in 2013 too. A representative said the news is just for Japan.”

So, hmmm, yeah. Before you go about accusing honest journalists of not doing their job right and fabricating news, you should research some more to back up your claim.

  • Lenne

Doesn’t matter to me if it will be JP only, i will be happy to import a copy of this just for Re:com. :)

    • Budgiecat

Re:Com is on PS2. In English

      • Lenne

         Not in europe sadly.

  • You can’t really compare localizing this to localizing type 0.

@Anime10121:disqus Did a great job of explaining that in a post below.

I’m sure we will get a localization announcement fairly soon.

  • FaithlessMr

I’m not sure for how long most of you knew SE, but I know ’em since the 90’s, FF VII was the game that introduced me to them, and well, most of Europe actually. And ever since, I remember reading, in game magazines at the time, about all their amazing games (both from Squaresoft and from Enix), that were all “only for japan!”.

Most of them made it to the US. Not so many made it to Europe, but as times changed, game localization periods and processes sped up and became easier. And yet, I always remember ’em saying that their games are always “Japan only” in their initial phases. Always. The only exception being FF XIII, which they seem keen on pushing to the whole world so bad. But I digress.

The point being…you really shouldn’t take this as confirmation of anything. They’re just saying that for the time being, this is to be released in Japan. Pretty sure that eventually, they’ll announce this for the west.

It’s Kingdom Hearts (a fairly sucessful SE franchise, even in the west), and it’s the PS3 (a popular console in the west). I mean, why wouldn’t they…?

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Why wouldnt they?  I asked that every time they skipped NA for Final Mix.

      • FaithlessMr

I’m sorry, but these don’t compare. You’re talking about re-releasing pretty much the same game with new features to an audience that’s not crazy over jrpgs to begin with, over a rather short period of time. That works in Japan, it doesn’t work here. If that was CoD, then yes, Activision would get away with re-releasing the same game twice with bonus features and sell millions within a couple of months between the game’s release dates. If SE were to re-release the FMs, they’d be litererally throwing money away, and that comes from someone who actually signed countless petitions to SE for them to release the FM KH’s in the west.

Now, the HD ports are a whole different beast. Everyone’s doing it, it’s a common trend of nowadays videogame generation, to re-release popular games from the previous generation as a collection. Not to mention, it has been a while since these games were released here, which would signifincantly enhance the players interest, and therefore, the chance for a possible localization. For all it’s worth, SE could even announce this for the west without the Final Mix add ons, if that’s what leads people into believing we’re not getting this.

Not to mention, this collection was pretty much teased in the ending of KH DDD. In the western versions as well.

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

          It was teased in ddd?

          • FaithlessMr

@facebook-1161379221:disqus posted the secret message picture up above, it basically claims that we’ll get the chance to relive the past as a new number, which is to say…an HD remake/collection of sorts. Ofc that, by itself, is not a surefire sign that we’ll get it in our territory, but it adds up to all the other reasons I posted above, which I believe to be an indication that we’ll get this, eventually, in NA and EU.

            • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

That doesnt sound like an hd remake too me.

              • FaithlessMr

Well, to me it sounds both like a numbered sequel and an HD remake. You’re free to read this off in any way you want it, ofc. But “the past will be reawakened as a new number, in never before seen detail” kinda seems like exactly what Japan is getting: The past (KH 1, Re:CoM and Days, reawakened (being released again under a collection) as a new number (1.5).

But again, it’s not this secret message that proves we’ll get this game, is everything else I stated that does, imho.

                • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

That sounds like Birth by sleep 2 to me,as birth by sleep one had left off on a sort of cliffhanger and it would be a new number (bbs2).

                  I do hope we get this though :'{

                  I need my Kh fix

                  • FaithlessMr

That’s also a logical conclusion, but I remember reading somewhere that Nomura wasn’t intending on making any games based on the Birth by Sleep Final Mix ending teaser.

If I could just find it again…Oh, found it, it’s from the Ultimania guide. The whole thing countains spoilers, so I’m just going to quote the section we’re looking for:

“Does the secret message you unlock mean Kingdom Hearts 3?

Nomura: Use your imagination. You will eventually find the answer.

Volume 2 of Birth by Sleep? Continuation of Birth by Sleep?

Nomura: That is to say the story for BBS vol. 2 exists but that story has been cut off. There is potential for a sequel to Birth by Sleep, but there are no plans for it right now.”

I’ll also post the link (do keep in mind the whole interview contains KINGDOM HEARTS DDD SPOILERS!!!, so please don’t read further ahead if you don’t want these spoilers):

I think that kinda rules out the possibility of this secret message refering to a new BBS game. Which can still happen, regardless.

                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

That only means it wasnt planned at the time(could have changed),but alas just hope versus gets out thenwe get Kh3 finally

                    • FaithlessMr

Yes, I’m not saying we won’t be seeing this game, I’m just saying that I think it’s rather unlikely that this secret message refers to BBS vol. 2. Keep in mind that interview took place after KH DDD was made, and therefore, after they included this secret message in the first place.

Versus won’t come until 2017, when SE realizes it needs to give something back to the fans, instead of hoping to live on expectations forever.

                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

                      2017…. :|

                      my heart…it hurts now

  • Aw man I missed it on the ps2 and was excited to try it out on the ps3.

  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

No,just no.Dont let tgis be another final mix.

  • What’s gonna be next Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix. Just guessing.

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ & Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep HD.

I own a physical copy of “Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+. So much better than the American version we got of KH2.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I want bbs and ddd to be in one box

  • SE, it’s not 1st of April and if this is a joke, it ain’t funny. All of my why…
I’ll just keep telling myself that it will get a localization announcement soon like everyone said.

  • square enix hates money they hate it !!! lol

  • Dear god I’ve never seen so much whining in my life. This will be localized, US sales are generally higher when it comes to KH. Like FaithlessMr said, announcements worldwide are not made simultaneously.

I guess what people fail to realize is this is a Japanese convention. Localization announcement will be made a later time, just not right now. People read this and think “OMG its proof they will never localize it ever, square is the worst company ever why they hate money”.

Have some patience people and some humility.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Kh final mix 1,2,and bbs  We didnt get those either -_-

      • LustEnvy

Pretty sure we got Birth By Sleep, as I own it.

        • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

          Birth by sleep final mix.

          • Our Birth By Sleep WAS BBS Final Mix

            • Anime10121

No it wasnt, I have both BBS and BBS FM and I can tell you, there are LOADS of upgrades. BBS FM had fights with No Heart and Eraqus’ armor in it.  It also had an epilogue starring Aqua where you get to face actual heartless in the world of darkness, plus a new pure breed heartless boss!  It also had new keyblades, mirage arena events, and well it had too many changes/upgrades for me to list, so I’ll just copy and paste from Wiki

Critical Mode has been added as a Difficulty Level.[2]
All Unversed have been given new color schemes. For example, the Flood is now purple instead of blue.[2]
The Sticker Album and its related quest have been added, though several of the rewards have been modified from the international release.[2]
The Rhythm Mixer Command Style has been added. It is musical-themed, and requires the player to press button prompts for the finisher.[2]
The Unison Rush, Voltage Stack, Illusion commands have been added.[2]
The Illusion commands are obtained by completing Battle Missions, which can be found throughout the worlds as floating orbs emblazoned with the Unversed emblem, similar to that of the Vanitas Remnant. Each Battle Mission has its own rules and win requirements.[2]

Characters in certain cutscenes, including ones on the Destiny Islands with Sora and Riku, are given higher quality facial animations.
The Skull Board has been added as a Command Board.[2]
Pete has been added as a Dimension Link.[2]
The Castle Circuit track has been added to Rumble Racing.[2]
The “Destiny Islands” song has been added to Ice Cream Beat.[2]
Vanitas Remnant gives the Void Gear Keyblade.[citation needed]
Young Xehanort appears as a boss, and gives the No Name Keyblade.[2]
Armor of the Master, Monstro, and No Heart appear as bosses of the three new Mirage Arena battles, “Mentor of Light”, “Monster of the Deep”, and “Foresight unto Darkness”, respectively.[2]
The “Monster of the Deep” battle is made up of a timed stage
where the player can attack Monstro directly, and an acid-filled stage
within Monstro’s belly where the player is sent once the two minutes run
out. The player must defeat the Unversed within Monstro to escape and
              try to damage Monstro further.[2]
Beating the “Foresight unto Darkness” Mirage Arena match grants the player a new Keychain, the Crown Unlimit Keyblade.

A new secret scene named “A fragmentary passage”
has been introduced, in contrast to the secret movies seen in previous
games. In the “Secret Episode”, the player controls Aqua through the Realm of Darkness, rather than watching the Blank Points secret movie from the NA release.

            • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

              Nope,not even close :{

  • The Black Rabbit

Oh my fucking god look at dem hands!

  • MizuMikomi

Alright, everyone is being too assumptive— yes the announcement was for Japan. DUH. It was the “TOKYO GAME SHOW” you’re not going to see this announced in Japan and for the US/EU at the same time. Square just doesn’t do that.

Plus, both you and Siliconera asked about the announcement itself. Well let’s see, Japanese trailer, Japanese Gameplay, Japanese Website. So of course THIS announcement was for Japan only.

Does that bar the possibility of an English announcement? No, because you didn’t specifically ask about that.

The reason I find it so hard to even want to follow gaming news sites is because you all take almost everything out of context, Siliconera Kotaku do it far too much, and I’d hate to see Gematsu make the same stupid mistake.

It’s pretty stupid to ask this early on anyway, I mean really. Even with Birth by Sleep, Days, and Coded people got the same response— this is nothing new.

Japanese reveal =/= an English localization announcement.

    • I don’t think I took anything out of context. The title of this post is “Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix ANNOUNCEMENT ‘only for Japan’.” The announcement it refers to, the Tokyo Game Show announcement, is clearly linked in the post. I asked Square Enix if the game is coming overseas, as well (so yes, I did specifically ask about that – here’s my exact question: “Can Square Enix confirm whether it will localize the recently-announced-in-Japan Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix?”), to which they responded, “The recent KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5 ReMIX- announcement was only for the Japanese market.” I was told that if anything changes, which clearly means there could be changes, then I’d be informed.

I don’t think it’s too soon to ask. And there are two reasons for that: 1) Square Enix’s global approach, as of late, and 2) the fact that both games in this collection are already localized, complete with voices, save for some of the new content in Final Mix. That given, I don’t think there is any reason Square Enix couldn’t release this worldwide day and date with the Japanese version.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. =)

    • PrinceHeir

nah i don’t think Gematsu will fall for the trap.

i mean they only reported it was announced TGS.

nothing more, they didn’t spin it like no it’s only for japan etc.

plus as you said, it always happens like this.

announce first a japanese release, then a few months later closer to the release they announce a overseas versions.

so i don’t think Gematsu is at fault here, it’s that people’s expectations need to be check.

for me i don’t mind waiting a bit, since i still have lots of games to finish so it doesn’t bother me at all.

  • I hate you Riku, you may keep KH 1.5 for yourself but Kairi is still mine >:(

  • TheFoolArcana

Meh, didn’t want another repackage from them anyway.

From what I have read, I don’t think we have anything to worry about. Kingdom Hearts has ALWAYS sold well in the West. And while they may be announcing it “for Japan only” at the moment, we shouldn’t write of Square Enix so fast. They may lack insight, but they know that this series is one of their bread-winners worldwide. Why do you think they won’t make KH3? Because they can get away with it. I played the first Kingdom Hearts when I was nine years old. 12 years later I have bought every single one, hoping that I will one day reach the end of this cheesily complex lore that I love. It’s a good series and they know that it sells well everywhere….so just be patient guys.

    • Then why didnt thy bring ANY of the upgraded Final Mixes?

      • Nomura said that he didn’t want any of the Final Mix games to come to the West. It might be a possibility for future titles, but for now he doesn’t want the Final Mix versions to leave Japan.

I’ve lost all faith in square enix, first they bring out probably the most complicated game series of all time on almost all of the consoles as exclusives so only people who own every console can actually follow the story, (luckily I managed to play and complete all of the kingdom hearts, but other people weren’t so lucky), and now they make the HD remix exclusive to an entire country!!!! If this turns out to be true square enix are more retarded than i originally thought.
