XBMC media player coming to Ouya
Two teams to work together to ensure functionality.Award-winning software media player and entertainment hub XBMC, which last month saw an Android reveal, will come to Ouya, Team XBMC has announced on its blog.
“We are delighted to announce that XBMC will be working with Ouya to ensure that XBMC works well on the Ouya platform,” said the studio’s Nate Thomas. “Ouya’s Android underpinnings and XBMC’s work on Android (soon to be merged into master, pending final sign-offs!) will dramatically speed up that effort, as will early XBMC dev access to Ouya prototypes.”
Nearly one-third of Team XBMC’s staff are Ouya backers, according to Thomas, and “many” of Ouya’s team support XBMC. The ongoing conversation between the two is still “young,” however, things are moving along positively.
Additionally, Ouya’s announced support for TuneIn, a free service that allows users to listen to music, sports, and news from around the world. It boasts over 70,000 stations and two million on-demand programs across 230 countries and territories.
And finally, here are some new shots of the console and controller, giving us a look at just how tiny an Ouya actually is:
