Ubisoft officially unveiled Rayman Legends during its E3 press conference today.
The game, developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, is a sequel to last year’s Rayman Origins. A Wii U title, the game takes “full advantage” of the Wii U Gamepad in order to “bring players innovative multiplayer interactions that go beyond those found in traditional platform games.” The touchscreen can be used to wipe out enemies or clear paths, and the gyroscope functionality can be used to manipulate and rotate platforms that appear on the TV screen. You can also play on the Wii U Gamepad if the TV is off.
Rayman Legends takes on a fantasy theme, and adds new gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. It features a “variety” of uniquly-themed levels, including musical and medieval maps. Players will be able to connect online with friends for a number of challenges that “test their skill and speed,” and compare each others rankings on the online leaderboards. The game also boasts “multi-dimensional gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and improved graphics rendering.”
“Ubisoft is exploring new concepts in gaming by combining the innovative Wii U technologies with the marvelous art direction and creative ambition of the Montpellier team.” said Michel Ancel, creative director at Ubisoft.
