Rumor: Sony to announce partnership with “leading cloud gaming service” at E3
Gaikai or OnLive partnership incoming?Sony is set to announce a parntership deal with a “leading cloud gaming service” for PlayStation during its E3 press conference next month, according to VG247.
One would guess either Gaikai or OnLive, the industry’s two leading cloud gaming servies.
Earlier this month, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s PlayStation Plus content manager Ross McGrath said: “By the way, if you don’t have a PS+ subscription, now is the time to get one. For real. Just get 3 months if you aren’t sure. Trust me.”
GamesRadar’s Sterlinng McGarvey yesterday said: “If there’s enough warnings before E3 to get onboard something, consider it. #PSPlus”
Both tweets seem to hint at something big coming to the platform – such as a cloud gaming service.
VG247’s article also contains other hints of E3’s actual contents. Site editor Patrick Garrat seems to know more than he lets on. Notable bits include:
- Most games shown at E3 will be already annunced. Expect a few surprises.
- Halo 4, Black Ops II, and Forza Horizon will be at Microsoft’s press conference. Don’t expect any earthquake announcements. Expect service announcements and at least one core surprise.
- “At least two largely unknown core products and Vita” at Sony’s press conference. “You may well be blown away,” but you won’t be shocked by the announcements.
- Wii U reveal: healthy core line-up, ready for Christmas, publisher commitment.
- Ubisoft will have a “show-stopping reveal.”
