Microsoft is readying an update to the Xbox 360 dashboard to integrate a cross-application exercise tracking system called Kinect Play Fit, according to The Verge sources.
The application will track users’ exercise across Kinect titles, providing tracking metrics ‘in the cloud’.
An accompanying piece of hardware, codenamed Joule, is reportedly also in development. It will allow Kinect owners to wirelessly track their heart rate and “ensure any exercise is within a target goal for weight loss, strength, or cross-fitness workouts.” The accessory is entirely optional, however.
As stated above, a dashboard update will introduce the system. The Verge expects an announcement at E3 next month. If true, it will fall completely in line with what Michael Pachter was told during his visit to Microsoft: “don’t expect a lot of game stuff, expect a lot of dashboard, interface, multimedia.”
