Orgarhythm, confirmed last night for North America, was officially announced by XSEED Games this afternoon. The original music strategy game, developed by Acquire in collaboration with Neilo, founded by Shenumue main programmer Takashi Hirai, blends music with real-time strategy elements.
As the God of Light, players will command their elemental armies and battle the God of Darkness’ evil forces by “deploying elemental soldiers for rhythm-based attacks synced to a hypnotic mix of rock, club and tribal music.” Rhythm is your weapon and different attacks occur on different beats, tying music directly with gameplay.
“The powerful blend of rhythm and RTS gameplay in Orgarhythm will bring players a unique new mobile game experience on PS Vita,” said Ken Berry, Executive Vice President of XSEED Games. “Rhythm is the weapon that will allow the God of Light to triumph over the God of Darkness.”
An army in Orgarhythm consits if unit types. Each unit type is based on either Fire, Water or Earth. Water is strong against Fire, Fire is strong against Earth, and Earth is strong against Water.
“Units are rhythmically deployed with three taps to choose the unit and attack type, then a swipe of the finger across the screen to choose position and formation,” detailed the announcement. “Using the same interface mechanic, players can also unleash their divine powers to boost attack, defense and healing or slow down enemy troops.
The game will include 12 maps, “which never play the same way twice,” co-op and competitive multiplayer via online play, and future DLC packs. It will launch for PlayStation Vita later this year.
