Square RPGs celebrate 15th and 10th anniversaries.

Next week’s Famitsu will celebrate the 15th and 10th anniversaries of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XI.

Final Fantasy VII launched in Japan on January 31, 1997, and Final Fantasy XI on May 16, 2002.

The magazine will publish special feature articles to commemorate the occassion. It hasn’t said what to expect, but I’m sure developer interviews are a given. It should be interesting!

Thanks, Game Jouhou.

@RyoonZ: LOL I was about to say the same thing.

      • @zerolegacy0: What’s that teaser imagine from?

Of course we all want a FFVII remake… Doubt it’s gonna happen at this point. Prove me wrong SE!

@andaryu: I dont, because I know it’ll never happen and actually be the same game. There is NO way that a game as ambitious as any of the PsOne games could still be made in this day and age with PS3 quality graphics.

There is FAR too much dialogue nowadays and with Square wanting their releases to be as high quality as they can, I cant imagine they’d leave it unvoiced. Another thing is the games back then used prerendered images as backgrounds vs. rotatable cameras, so in that since they have to create MORE assets that weren’t even apart of the original game.

Trust me when I say I’d rather have pre-rendered backgrounds instead of fully rotatable cameras as I feel that would have made XIII a better game, at least artistically, but reviewers would DESTROY the game in reviews for being outdated. Many already have a vendetta with Jrpgs for not “evolving” enough (even though Call of Duty and sports continue to garner praise every year when they make even less changes).

tldr: FFVII on PS3 CANT happen if they want to live up to gamer expectations nowadays.

          • @anime10121: Yeah, I feel ya. Of course it’s not going to live up to our expectations. Nostalgia always overpowers the best of graphics and quality of game play, there’s no way they could actually produce a remake that EVERYONE would like over the original. That’s just impossible.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind a sequel on PS3 explaining the events after Dirge of Cerberus. The only thing is it probably would be terribly bad. Who knows what’s going to happen, if anything a nice Crisis Core HD remaster would suffice for me.

Dont care much for XI but i wonder what they’re gonna do with FFVII
Hopefully a little more than an HD port..

@vertical09: I’ve been playing alot of games dating back since forever (like the rest of you?) ^^. Picking from that selection I could easily single out FFXI as the most addictive and captivating experience of them all. So much time spent. So many fond memories. “Unfortunately” its a MMO and as such has its cycle of haydays and eventually decline.

As a journalist here in Sweden wrote a short while ago; its a good thing I couldn’t afford the monthly fee back then, or else I’d still be playing to this day. :)

I also played 11 for like 4 years. I couldn’t agree more, it was super addictive and captivating.

I quit the game mostly because of mmorpg drama bull crap, but I had accomplished enough to be satisfied at that time as well.

I think a year or so later, they pretty much gutted the game, and raised the lv cap. Which made it super easy, thus kinda killing what made it great when I played it.

That pretty much killed any thoughts I had of coming back to the game, heh.

i want a free to play ffxi.

Sounds awesome. I hope some awesome person out there translates the special articles. (Pretty please!)

  • KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler

FF7 is my favorite game ever,I dont want a remake -_-

    • FaithlessMr

This, this this and a thousand times this. It’s not my favorite game ever, but for the love of the Midgar Zolom, don’t ever remake it. The game is fine as it is, remaking it would only trash a beautiful and magic game.

Just purchase the original on PSN guise, it’s really cheap and it’s worth every cent you’ll spend on it.

I got distracted from the image. I was like, “Did someone Photoshop Zack’s head & replaced it with Cloud’s?”. Anyways! I honestly don’t know what to expect, but I’m sure the article will have some interesting information.

Give us a FFVII remake for PS3/PS VITA. Then PS3 sales for SONY will go up higher than ever before.
