Game Informer's July cover story.

The July issue of Game Informer has the reveal of an unexpected title: the next entry in the Gears of War franchise. The outlet has not revealed the title of the game, as it is being saved for Microsoft’s E3 press conference on Monday, but has shared the cover artwork, which depicts a man in chains staring into a burning city.

Microsfot will debut a teaser trailer on Monday. Stay tuned.

  • It’s a prequel. The man in chains is Marcus Fenix starring into the burning city of Ephyra. Ephyra is the city he abandoned his defense post in in order to find his father. He was supposed to get the death penalty for abandoning his post, but Dom spoke up for him well enough to get him life in The Slab.

    Yep. I know my stuffs.

      Gears of war: Exile, then?

      • @Locksus:

        Exile was an on rails shooter-kinect title that got cancelled a while back. My guess is that this is probably a real game, and not an on-rails shooter.

        I just found a reason to watch MS’s press conference, though.

          @Acidicsam: I don’t suppose I can interest you in purchasing a Gears of War 3 signed Cliffy B poster… You seem like a massive fan, and this thing has been sitting in my closet (Framed) since PAX East 2011.

          • @slixshot:

            I love the series, but I don’t have any spare cash right now. Sorry!

  • FinalFantasy_fangirl

    Gears is fanastic series

    Surprising announcement!

    Kinda spoils it for e3 though. It would have been a nice surprise on stage.

    • @Zero:

      I think this was actually a good move.

      Besides Halo 4, MS didn’t really have anything to get a bunch of people to watch their press conference. Between this, Forza: Horizon, and Halo 4, they should be able to get a pretty good amount of attention.

        I would agree for you if it wasn’t for the GTTV promo that aired the other day.

        According to what it says, they will be showing 3rd party titles from Capcom, EA Sports, Harmonix, Square Enix, THQ, and Ubisoft.

        Which means, they will already be showing quite a bit of games, more than I expected from early reports.

        They are short on first party titles. MS likes to do big timed exclusive stuff with 3rd party games. (Like CoD, and Black Ops 2 will likely also be shown during MS presser.)

        With all that going on, and how they still plan to focus on 360 interface enhancement, and kinect games. They might not have much time to show the new Gears.

        Just have to wait and see.

    Microsoft has no games. They rely on halo or gears every year.

    • @KingOptimus111:

      Your distinct lack of love for Forza disappoints me.

      • KingOptimus111

        Ok 3 games so what Sony has multiple titles every year for PS3. Shit, Naughty Dog is already making a new ip The Last Of Us and Quantic Dream is also working on a new Ip. What does microsoft have to offer. Nothing but halo & forza one year and gears of war & forza the next year.

    Dont forget LOL Fable!

    But yeah….while Gears is cool…..MS’s reliance on the smallest stable of franchises coupled with the worst HW reliability in electronics history is why I walked away years ago and couldnt be happier. It blows my mind that most people have yet to think enough for themselves to do the same.
    People in America love to flush money down the crapper though, as evidenced by this crap economy.

    Gears = good.
    MS = Bad
    Americans = dumb

    And yes….Im an American so I speak from experience.

    • KingOptimus111

      Gears Of War is good (still prefer Uncharted over it) but I just don’t understand why microsoft won’t announce more exclusives. I was about to get a xbox in 2008 then I stopped after I saw Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Infamous, Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time, & Demon Souls for the PS3 in 2009. That made feel like xbox just wanted my money through xbox live membership and not for the games. Then when they announce the PS3 Slim I went out and bought it and never regretted it. I’ve been enjoying my Games, Blu Ray, Internet, Free Online Access, and Playstation Home on my PS3. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on PS Vita this year if tons of games are announce for it at E3.

    @Malcolm Reynolds: You cant blame them when u have Gamestop emplyee’s telling customers 360 is the best and bashing the PS3.
    I know as i was a manger for GS and i can tell u from experience ppl really have no idea what they r buying. I cant tell u how many times a person came into my store set on buying a 360 but after talking with me 95% of the time they left with a PS3 even when the machine was $600.

    It really comes down to how knowledgeable the staff was about informing what u r getting, how much ur saving, and whats best for that customer. Sadly most GS stores I go into its 360 that 360 this and so on, so its no wonder ppl buy it.

    Tho its true ppl have no clue what they r buying and MS knows this all to well, I mean really who releases a 4gig console?
