Metal Gear Online will go offline on June 12, 2012, Konami has announced. The online adaption to the Metal Gear franchise, which came bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4, will have seen four years of service.
Konami has shared an outline of planned events leading up to its closure:
- March 21, 2012 at 16:00 (JST): closure of the Metal Gear Online online shop.
- April 24, 2012 at 18:00 (JST): all expansion packs and Preset Codec Message Appeal Packs will be available for free download. Reward shop equipment will be available free (with the exception of “non-sale items). New character registration will not be available during this time.
- June 12, 2012 at 23:59 (JST): end of online service.
Metal Gear Online launched for PlayStation 3 on June 12, 2008 with Metal Gear Solid 4. It launched as a standalone product in Japan on July 17.
