This week’s Famitsu has the first look at a massive new project from Square Enix, according to early leaks from the magazine.
In development internally at Square Enix by a staff of around 35 people, the game is an original action RPG powered by the Unreal Engine 3, and headed up by Ryutaro Ichimura, who produced Dragon Quest IX for DS. It’s being made for consoles, with a next-generation release also a possibility.
Ichimura’s staff reportedly traveled the world for the past two years, conducting surveys, to research art and gameplay direction for the RPG.
While the magazine doesn’t specifically name the games, it does have a first look at some artwork – including that of hero, rival, and boss-type characters. Famitsu said it looks like it’s targeting an overseas audience.
The reveal itself is meant to be more of a job solicitation than anything else. Square is looking for programmers, planners, and designers to help work on the project.
In other news, Dynasty Warriors Multi Raid 2 HD Version and Gran Turismo 5 Spec II are also revealed in this week’s issue. The first is the second of Sony’s PSP Remaster lineup, and the latter is an update to 2009’s Gran Turismo 5 set for release on February 2, 2012 for 4,980 yen.
