This week’s Famitsu has a look at Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s Crystarium System, first revealed in screenshots earlier this week. Sokuho@Hokanko has provided its summary.
Like Serah and Noel, monsters, whom you’re able to recruit and have enter the party, can be leveled up using the Crystarium. Where Serah and Noel use Crystarium Points, however, monsters use items to level up. You can buy these items from shops or get them as drops after battle. The abilities that upgrade depend on which item you use, and as you get further through the monster’s Crystarium, you’ll need rarer items to progress.
You can also sacrifice a monster and give its abilities to another monster. It can only inherit four types of abilities, however: command, auto, characteristic, and tolerance. Command and auto abilities can only be inherited by a monster with the same role as the sacrificed monster. If you sacrifice your monster and give its abilities to one of a different role, it may receive an entirely new set of abilities.
As displayed in this week’s screenshots, human characters will earn bonuses each time they level up their Crystarium. This includes “Increase ATB gauge,” “Increase accessory capacity by 20,” unlocking new roles and boosting current roles.
Outside the Crystarium, Famitsu also has a look at the Historia Crux and fragment systems, as well as some story bits.
Through Historia Crux, the game’s time travel system, you’ll need Wild OOPArts items to traverse blue gates, and a specific key to traverse yellow gates.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 offers a quest system called the fragment system. There are 160 fragments to complete. You’re able to see how many fragments are in each area through the Historia Crux gates screen.
A new building, “Augustia Tower,” is introduced in the magazine. It was built by the Academy for an undisclosed purpose. The rooms of the tower are shifting due to a disruption of the space time continuum.
