“Issues and reviews” surrounding the recently-launched RAGE has lead Bethesda to “indefinitely postpone” development of DOOM 4, a supposed source told Kotaku.
DOOM 4 was first announced in 2008, but has taken the backseat while id Software worked on RAGE until its 2011 release.
RAGE‘s mixed reviews demonstrated to Bethesdsa “a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id,” according to the source, which lead them to postpone the title.
We’ll mail Bethesda and see if we can get official word on this. For now, take your salt.
Update 9:50am: The rumor is “complete bollocks,” according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines.
“Re: DOOM 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise,” he added.
Sounds like DOOM 4 is still full-speed ahead.
