Possible localization files found in Tales of Xillia

Hope for localization grows stronger.

In July, Tales series producer Makoto Yoshizumi said Tales of Xillia would see a western release if fans showed enough enthusiasm. Either fans have properly shown that enthusiasm or Namco Bandai is just playing it safe, because the Japanese release of Tales of Xillia contains what look to be localization files for different languages, including English, French, and Italian.

The files were spotted by Aeana, who posted her findings on Twitter (1, 2, 3): “Poked around in Xillia‘s files. Found something interesting: all of the game’s text is in files named *.SDBJPN. Every string has a constant identifier, such as STR_BTL_TUT_CHAIN_ALVIN. The interesting thing is that there are other SDB files: SDBENG, SDBFRA, SDBITA, etc… all have the same identifiers associated with empty strings. So the game seems to be localization-ready.”

Namco Bandai has yet to confirm an overseas release.

Hey, now that’s pretty cool! If this really does get a western release, it will give me yet another reason to buy a PS3. WOOOOOOOO!!!!

Wow, this news came pretty fast (in relation to the release date). I love it when people go poking in game files and find cool stuff like this.

  • dynatae

OK this news just made my day, thanks gematsu and aeana!

  • FinalFantasy_fangirl

Awesome I’ll be honest Im more interested in Xillia than Graces F

    • dynatae

@FinalFantasy_fangirl: graces F is old, I hope they localize this and not hold on us a good tales game…

    • @FinalFantasy_fangirl: Me too, Xillia has a better art style and just simply looks more interesting to me. Still, I wouldn’t NOT buy a localised Tales game!

  • Italian? Is that multi-language support i sense? <3
The game is great! Been playing it for a few hours and it definitely deserves it!

This seems to be more about good programming to have the game in a state ready for localisation should they choose to, rather than saying that it will be localised.

Hoping for some Graces F news soon..

This Scamco we are talking about… I don’t want to get my hopes up just to be trolled again.

  • Genesis

YES! I will support Graces F, but this is what I want!

  • Charlie

This will be a great chance to play my first Tales game!!!
    (Besides Graces F).

There is no doubt that XIllia will be localized… every Tales mothership title has been localized. It’s only extended versions (just like FF 12 IZJJ) and ports that are not consistently translated… I don’t get why people have doubts about this one.

    • AdamBoy64

@Mousse Effect: That is true (well, the exception is mothership titles on handhelds). The big question will be the timing of an announcement..

Graces F localisation was announced when Xillia development was well underway.

That, and the mothership titles that make their way west seem to come out about once every 3 years.. For both those reasons, I’m expecting any Xillia localisation announcement to be some time away…

      @Mousse Effect:
Except for Tales of Innocence and Tales of Hearts.

Innocence is great, btw. Haven’t played Hearts yet.

@Mousse Effect: Something tells me that you have completely forgotten about Destiny 2 (not to be confused with Eternia) and Rebirth, both which are considered classic PS2 games which never made it out of Japan.

  • captainhowdy

Not going to get excited yet.

Id totally pay 500 dollars to get the limited edition of xillia with the xillia ps3 if it came out in english! WE NEED XILLIA! I know its a bad idea to get my hopes up, but just GIVING UP nd saying anything is possible TOTALLY SUCKS! Im going to wait for it to come out in english, WE NEED IT.
