Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura spoke out about the future of the series to this week’s issue of Famitsu.
Speaking first about Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for 3DS, Nomura said that development is currently 40 to 50 percent complete. He also confirmed secret movie will be in the game.
Nomura dropped a few hints about the game. Here’s one: “XXX and XXX in Traverse Town!” The XXXs are surprising elements, according to Nomura.
Kingdom Hearts 3D‘s story is puzzling, said Nomura. It will touch upon the hidden data in Sora. Teasing a bit of gameplay, he said you’ll be able to make your way up to the rooftops.
Moving on to the future of the series, Nomura said that those waiting for Kingdom Hearts III may find answers in Kingdom Hearts 3D.
Kingdom Hearts III will see the end of the Xehanort arc of the series saga, Nomura said. He has a framework for continuation following Kingdom Hearts III, where Sora will remain as the main character.
What platform will the next Kingdom Hearts release for? Nomura wasn’t asked, but Famitsu asked its readers. Here are the results:
- 1. PlayStation 3 – 2,030 votes
- 2. PlayStation Portable – 1,010 votes
- 3. PlayStation Vita – 990 votes
- 4. Nintendo 3DS – 440 votes
- 5. Nintendo Wii U – 270 votes
Readers were also asked several other Kingdom Hearts questions. The most favored game in the series is Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix; the most favored element is story; the most favored character is Sora; and the most favored scene is the fight between Sora and Roxus in Kingdom Hearts 2.
Touching upon high-definition remakes, popularized by updates like the God of War Collection and upcoming Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Nomura said they’re looking into high-def tech tests for older titles. He wouldn’t confirm whether we’d see a Kingdom Hearts Collection anytime soon.
