PlayStation 3 sales pass 50 million worldwide

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced today that, as of March 29, 2011, PlayStation 3 has sold 50 million units worldwide. Additionally, as of April 3, 2011, sales for its PlayStation Move motion controller have surpassed 8 million units.

The console’s online service, PlayStation Network, houses more than 75 million registered accounts and operates in 59 countries and regions worldwide. In total, the PlayStation Store has 105,988 pieces of digital content.

PlayStation 3 as a platform has more than 2,128 software titles, with over 480 million copies sold worldwide.

Sony Computer Entertainment will “continue to further expand the PS3 platform and create a new world of computer entertainment.”
