Ever since Sony sold off the Crash Bandicoot IP, things have not been good for the former PlayStation mascot. Once developed by the same studio that created Uncharted, the franchise is now considered a budget series at current publisher Activision. We’ve been waiting for a good Crash game for a while, perhaps a true Crash Bandicoot 4, but it’s yet to happen. A fan has created the next best thing.
Utilizing the CryEngine, the same system that powers Crysis 2, Anonym-Art Productions’ Crash Bandicoot Return aims to recreate the levels of the first game in beautiful high-definition. The company just recently announced the game, releasing a very early gameplay video of the original game’s N. Sanity Beach stage. Despite some awkward animations, it looks like they’re on the right path.
It’s a PC mod, of course, but I thought I’d share it anyway. Check out more information and screenshots over at its ModDB page. The gameplay clips can be seen below.
