SOCOM 4 ‘Bomb Squad’ mode unveiled, multiplayer beta dated
Swaying away from the generic deathmatch and capture the flag modes of online shooters, Zipper Interactive’s announced a unique new mode for their upcoming third-person shooter, SOCOM 4.
Bomb Squad, as it’s called, pits a team of bomb-planting Insurgents against a team of bomb-defusing Spec Ops. The object of the game is simple. In order for Spec Ops to win, they must successfully defuse all of the Insurgent bombs before the timer to run out; for the Insurgents to succeed, they need to hinder the Spec Ops’ progress.
The Spec Ops team has a unique character type called the Bomb Technician. He’s a heavily armored character, equipped with an automatic shotgun and mobile grenade launcher, whose main purpose is to defuse the bombs while his team members keep the Insurgents busy.
Bomb Squad and three other game modes will be playable in the upcoming multiplayer beta, set to kick off in private status on March 15. On March 22, PlayStation Plus members can join in on the fun, and on March 29, those who purchased a copy of Killzone 3 with the SOCOM 4 sticker can get in. Finally, on April 5, it’ll go live on PlayStation Network to everybody.
