Last year’s Transformers: War for Cybertron was a great success amongst critics and consumers, so it’s only natural that developer High Moon would be selected to develop the next game in the franchise. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is currently in the works at their studio, and unlike the last movie-based game in the series, this one could be a hit.
“We’re sticking with a similar control and gameplay scheme from War for Cybertron,” Game Director Sean Miller told IGN. “We want you to be able to play in whichever (transformation) mode you want – you’re never without your weapons, but you’ve got choices.”
Dark of the Moon is a prologue to the events that occur in the film, taking the robots through several Earth-based stages. This allows High Moon to build the game around their concepts, rather than sticking to a rigid movie script. It’ll introduce a new transformation mode called Stealth Force, though IGN describes it as a bit “heavy on force” for stealthy maneuvers.
Online multiplayer will make a return, this time with actual Transformers rather than custom robots. High Moon confirmed War for Cybertron‘s competitive mode will remain intact, but couldn’t talk about whether it’d include other modes such as co-op or Escalation mode. Activision‘s said more details will arrive in the coming months.
Transformers: Dark of the Moons began development just before War for Cybertron shipped last June. It’ll be out this year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, and cell phones.
