EA‘s released the first gameplay trailer and pre-order details for DICE‘s Battlefield 3, this morning.
The sequel to the 2005 classic (Battlefield 2) puts players in the shoes of a U.S. Marine in “a near-future war game depicting international conflicts spanning land, sea and air.” It’ll feature single-player, multiplayer, and co-op modes. Locations range from “dense city streets” to “wide open rural” areas requiring long range tactics. These include spots like New York, Paris, and Tehran. DICE promises the game will feel “more alive and interactive than ever before,” partly due to the utilization of the Frostbite 2 engine.
“We wanted to create the most immersive and emotionally powerful Battlefield game ever and we needed new technology to deliver on our vision,” said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer. “Battlefield 3 preserves the franchise’s signature sandbox style and even brings back classic fan favorites like jets, going prone and 64-player multiplayer on PC.”
Those who decide to pre-order the game will get the first downloadable expansion, titled Battlfield 3: Back to Karkand, for free. Back to Karkand includes four “legendary” maps from Battlefield 2 recreated with Frostbite 2. Also in the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, extra trophies/achievements, and more.
Battlefield 3 is out this Fall for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Check out the debut gameplay trailer below.
