Following Famitsu’s announcement earlier this week, Sega America and Sega Europe have officially announced Binary Domain, an upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 squad-based shooter by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi.
Binary Domain, set in 2080 Tokyo, puts players smack in the middle of “a fast-pace and intense battle for humanity” against a robot-invaded city. Players take on the role of an international peace-keeping squad that soon start to question their way of life.
“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama,” commented Toshihiro Nagoshi. “The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”
The game features a “highly advanced” AI that will make combat a “more compelling experience than ever before”. Players will have to think on their feat and make their move strategically in order to progress.
“We are excited and proud to have Toshihiro Nagoshi working on Binary Domain,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of Europe and SEGA of America. “The game is being developed in Japan yet it is designed for a global audience and will take players into an exhilarating story wrapped into a unique, action-packed shooter experience in a fresh new setting.”
Binary Domain is currently TBD for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the first screenshots at the gallery. The debut trailer can be found below.
