First announced at the Video Game Awards in Los Angeles this weekend, Prototype 2 is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. A proper press release issued by Activision today details a bit more information on the upcoming sequel.
Prototype 2 stars Sgt. James Heller, a man bent on killing the protagonist of the first Prototype, Alex Mercer. Reasons for this are still unknown, although it may have something to do with the end of the first game (I’ve never actually finished it — if you know, fill me in).
According to Activision, sales of the first Prototype allowed for a sequel, surpassing two million units worldwide.
“When Prototype surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer,” said Ken Rosman, Studio Head, Radical Entertainment. “The team here at Radical is sincerely grateful to the fans and we are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with Prototype 2!”
A full reveal of the game will debut in the April 2011 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.
Additionally, Activision will release the first Prototype (pictured above) on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Store as a $29.99 full-game download today. If you want a chance at getting the game for free, Activision are doing random drawings on the game’s facebook page.
Our suggestion: if you want to try out Prototype, give eBay a go first.
