NHL GameCenter LIVE comes to PlayStation Network
Baseball isn’t the only sport available through your PlayStation 3 anymore. Sony’s announced today that NHL GameCenter LIVE, an online service that allows subscribers to stream live hockey games through their broadband connection, is now available free for PlayStation Plus users (the application, that is) and for $9.99 for regular PlayStation Network users.
“PlayStation Network has become an innovative and all-in-one destination for PS3 users to enjoy a comprehensive, customizable on-demand entertainment experience. The addition of streaming NHL content continues the expansion of our library of movies and TV shows, original programming, music, live sports and access to social networks,” said Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing and PlayStation Network, SCEA. “Through our partnership with the NHL, we are giving our customers another important choice to access and stream the content they want, when and how they want it.”
The application offers non-GameCenter-subscribers post-game highlights, team schedules, standings, player stats, profiles and an NHL scoreboard. Those who opt to subscribe to GameCenter, however, for $169 a year will have access to live hockey games, full-length and shortened replays of current season games they might have missed, and access to over 500 classic games from the NHL Vault. Those who want access only to the NHL Vault can instead pay $4.95 a month.
