THQ’s re-announced de Blob 2 today, their upcoming sequel to 2008’s award-winning Wii game, dating the color-filled title for February 22, 2011 and removing its The Underground subtitle.
de Blob 2 will debut across four platforms — PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS. It marks the franchise’s first appearance in high-definition and will also be 3D-compatible. The sequel will include an “in-depth” single-player campaign with all-new power-ups and challenges, co-op and competitive multiplayer modes, 2D side-scrolling areas, and much more. It’s story once again pits players against Comrade Black, disguised as Papa Blanc, where de Blob must rise against his reign and bring color to the city once more.
“We are thrilled to expand the world of de Blob into high definition and 3D gaming with an entertaining and immersive experience that brings back the adventures of the fun-loving, free-spirited hero,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Games, THQ. “In addition to the release of de Blob 2, THQ will extend the reach of its most colorful owned intellectual property with an upcoming Syfy partnership and de Blob-branded consumer products.”
