There is a Santa Claus! Double Fine’s Costume Quest is getting the downloadable content treatment. ‘Grubbins on Ice’ will hit PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE next month, opening the game’s protagonist children to the winter season and the snowy lands of the Grubbin-controlled Repugia.
Lucy, one of the game’s four protagonists, needs saving after being sucked into a demon portal while scavenging the town for evidence that the monsters from Halloween actually exist. The portal leads to Repugia, where all sorts of Grubbins socialize and eat candy. The current leader of Repugia has Lucy captured, but luckily you’ve entered the town at a time where not everyone agrees with his actions. Players will enter this portal, into Repugia, and go door-to-door earning candy from those who support the cause or fighting monsters who do not.
Players have a selection of their old costumes to use, including the ninja and robot suits, but have a set of new costumes to piece together, as well. These include a pirate outfit, track suit, and an eyeball. Of course, new costumes also means new abilities; shown in one of the screenshots at GameSpot‘s exclusive reveal is the pirate outfit using his hook to slide down a clothesline. Neato!
The downloadable content will also fix some bugs in Costume Quest, itself, and add new features like the ability to pause during cut-scenes or save at phone booths.
The whole package will last around five hours, depending on how quickly you play. No exact date or price yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
