SpongeBob Kinect game in development
THQ and Nickelodean have announced a renewal in their long-standing partnership in creating SpongeBob SquarePants games this morning. A press release sent out today reveals that THQ has secured the rights to develop new games in the SpongeBob franchise for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP and all of the sorts.
The first game they’re developing will utilize motion control, it seems. Reads the press release: “Scheduled for release in 2011, the first [SpongeBob] game to be developed under this agreement is being designed to take advantage of the unique capabilities of Nintendo 3DS, THQ’s highly anticipated uDraw GameTablet for Wii, and Kinect for Xbox 360, no controller required.”
The press release makes no mention of PlayStation Move so we’re guessing the first game will skip out on a PlayStation 3 release. Still, it’s hard to wonder about what a SpongeBob game for Kinect will play like. Hopefully it’ll be as good as PS2‘s Battle for Bikini Bottom and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which I actually enjoyed, believe it or not.
