Keiji Inafune leaves Capcom

Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man and producer of the Dead Rising franchise, has just announced on his personal blog that he’s to resign from his position at Capcom.

In his goodbye post, Inafune spoke about how great of a company Capcom is, going as far to say he’s “in love” with the company, “probably more than anyone else.” He entered Capcom 23 years ago as a character designer and worked his way up to his now former position of head of Research & Development and Online Business and Global Head of Production.

As for Inafune’s reason for departure, he says has no steps left to climb as he’s already reached the highest level possible in game development. So much for developing that “dream” project known as Mega Man Legends 3, then, eh Inafune?

As big of a surprise this is, we should’ve seen it coming. Inafune hinted at his departure earlier this month, expressing how much he hated his job and wanted to retire.

Inafune’s to resign later this month. He’s specifically stated that there won’t be a chance for him to return to Capcom in the future.

It had to happen sometime, but now!? Right in the middle of Legends 3 production and when DR2 is doing really well?

    Damn Inafune…Damn…..

People are like what will happen with the Mega Man franchise now? Well, usually when a creator leaves a company and has worked on a franchise like Sonic the games that are made after his departure tend to suck. Maybe there is some poilitics over at Capcom that has made the guy who created Devil May Cry and eventually the superior Bayonetta leave. I wonder where Inafune will go now? I’d want to say Platinum Games which is a group of ex-Capcom employees. It must be hard for Inafune to leave a franchise that has a huge place in the world of video games.

  • even though i don’t like they guy’s attitude towards the industry, i still respect him since he produced one of the finest games in the industry, Onimusha and Megaman (he also designed the X chracter which is the best megaman IMO)

sad tooo seeo hos out, hopefully he joins another studio or make new one altogether. sad we won’t be seeing Onimusha now.

  • to all people who say’s capcom is dead they still have some talented developers left, Ryota Niitsuma(Tatsunoko vs Capcom), Ryozo Tsujimoto(Monster Hunter),Shu Takumi(Ace Attorney Series)

  • oh and yoshinori Ono(Street Fighter IV) too :D

Well, he seems like he wasn’t happy there – and needed a change.
He’s better off being somewhere where he’s happy so he can continue to do what he does best.

I think it’s time for a Megaman marathon in his honour. Never forget the NES games – fantastic platformers.

Anyway, all the best to him.

Find your place Inafune-san. The whole reason I’m becoming a game developer is coz its something I love to do and if you hate what you’re doing now, leave and find your place in life. Hopefully its another game company and start producing miracles like Bayonetta and Vanquish :P

This is very sad news. However i too got an impression inafune wasnt very happy at capcom. I certainly dont agree with his views on the japanese industry needing to become more “western”.

This is a huge blow. This and the new DMC going to ninja theory.
…….. What on earth is going on at capcom?
