Epke: SCEJ developing “crazy” new PS3 title; PSN’s slow evolution due to Japan

Remember Room 299? That mysterious website a Sony Benelux employee linked to not too long ago? Turns out that it was nothing but a PlayStation press event for the Dutch media. While there were no new games announced at the event, Sony did make two statements worth talking about, both captured by our friends at TheSixthAxis.com.
First, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan are apparently working on some “crazy” new title for PlayStation 3. Sony Benelux’s Dave Epke said that he saw footage of the new game when he was in Japan not too long ago.
“It looked crazy! Really, I don’t know how they come up with that stuff,” said Epke. When asked whether or not he could say what type of game it is, he replied, “I really love my job. You’ll just have to wait.”
He did say that it kind of reminded him of LittleBigPlanet. He’s unsure of whether or not it’ll be on display at the Tokyo Game Show, unfortunately.
Epke also touched a bit on the PlayStation Network. When asked why the online network evolves so slowly compared to Xbox LIVE, he said that “the main reason for that, is because all the big decisions are still being made in Japan.
“That’s where they develop the core firmware as well. And we’ve been trying to take over their work here in Europe and the US, or at least divide the tasks, but without success. See, they’re really stubborn. And they have other priorities over there. They don’t care much about social media and online gaming. Not many people play online games in Japan, apart from the ones that are into MMOs. But, as I said, we’re still working on it and we’ll get there eventually. I mean, we know it’s a big deal here in Europe and in the US. And we’re frustrated by the fact that Sony Japan really slows things down.”
