Devil May Cry creator not too fond of new Dante

Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Devil May Cry series, doesn’t seem too fond of Ninja Theory’s new take on protagonist Dante.

In a series of tweets where fans ask him his thoughts on the new younger Dante, he responds the following:

“I miss him, too… RT @nss_13_ @PG_kamiya I miss the Dante you made,” read the first tweet.

“I’ve been sad since Dante left me. RT @nss_13_ @PG_kamiya It’s sad to see what you started turn this way,” read another.

The last tweet read: “Whatever. RT @Solivagant @PG_kamiya #DmC, by Ninja Theory? Do you think they will “evolve” the action game from your Bayonetta standard?”

I guess we’ll see how it all turns out in 2011.

  • I’ll be honest, before the trailer, some might have read my comment here stating I had a “good feeling” about the game. Now, I have seen the trailer multiple times…and I am entering a stalemate. On one hand, I am pleased to see a new DMC game, a reboot of a series I have always admired.

On the other hand, I too am unsure of my stance on the Dante (and some of the general style of the new game, as seen in the trailer). It strikes me as too…different, too far removed from the DMC we know and love, as if they are trying to aim at a different audience altogether.

I know it’s early days yet, and as we have seen demonstrated, some people are not even sure that this IS Dante, but who knows? We need more gameplay and details about it; but it’s definately off to a luke warm start.

  • can’t say i blame him.

capcom basically destroyed the coolness of dante and turned him into that “thing”

Capcom already stole Hideki Kamiya’s Masterpieces. Okami, Devil May Cry, even Mikami’s Resident Evil.

I said it in the other post, and i’ll say it here…I hate it. I agree with both of you…wtf is Capcom doing?

I think that company just wants to grow SO bad, they’re coming up with all these stupid ideas that don’t make sense to anyone. They stated they wanted Dead Rising to be their “MAIN” Zombie franchise…uhh, did they forget that MILLIONS of people are waiting for Resident Evil 6? Or Resident Evil PSP? I’m afraid what’s happening to DMC will happen one day to Resident Evil.

Why would you outsource your most popular franchises to other third parties? Thats total nonsense. Why not use third parties to help develop new IPs under the Capcom name, and then when that series gets big, they can sell if to the other company, giving them a series, and make a profit at the same time?

All I know is, that if this is what Capcom is doing, I’m not supporting them. I have more Capcom games for my PS2 than any other developer, but if this…THING they call Dante is the new face of Capcom….all I can say is that the company has lost what I admired so much about them in the past…Passion for the games they put on the market.

I’m not a big fan of the new thing myself. When I first saw the trailer, I was like “You have got to be joking…” Dante just isn’t the awesome guy he was before. THe only thing I can hope is either this DMC game is a whole other series on it’s own. I mean, this is the first time Ninja Theory is making a DMC game, so this could be their own DMC game. But if this is what we are going to be living with for the rest of DMC’s life, then I’m leaving it.
