Final Fantasy XIV rejected for Xbox due to “closed system”

Final Fantasy XIV‘s fate on Xbox 360 has been on and off since the game was announced at E3 last year. Producer HIromichi Tanaka has repeatedly stated that discussion was ongoing with Microsoft to bring the game to the console. However, it looks like it’s still a no-go for Xbox 360.
“Microsoft accepted the multiplatform approach of Final Fantasy XI at that time as an exception, because Xbox LIVE was still relatively young, and Microsoft’s guidelines were not defined so clearly,” Tanaka told 4Player in a recent interview.
“Now its principles seem very clear and they want to Xbox LIVE just as a closed system. You do not even have something like a web browser, so they want to restrict even this area of access. The multiplatform aspects of Final Fantasy XIV seem to unite with its principles so it simply can not. We are still trying to speak with them and negotiate. If it should come to an agreement, there is definitely an Xbox 360 version to follow – at the moment we have stopped development, but only once.”
