Electronic Arts has lifted the veil on Fight Night Champion, the fifth iteration in the critically-acclaimed Fight Night franchise. The game, which is most definitely not an expansion to Fight Night Round 4, is set to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
The upcoming fighter promises to “break the mold” of what to expect in a single-player sports title. Players will “experience the drama, emotion, excitement and tragedy” of championship boxing.
According to gameplay producer, Brian Hayes, “It’s something people won’t expect from an EA Sports game“. He promises the game will be “the full meal deal with desert and a toy. The whole enchilada. All that and a bag…”
A full roster of between 60 and 65 boxers will be available on the full roster. Players will control these boxers with the new “Full Spectrum Punch Control” and throw some heavy hitters. EA touts this system as “the most realistic punching system ever seen,” as well as “the most user-friendly title in the franchise’s history.”
EA will re-announce the game later today at their studio showcase. That happens at 4pm EST, where other game announcements are expected, as well.
