It’s been rumored in the past, but I doubt anybody thought it would happen. Insomniac Games has announced today that they’ve signed a deal with EA Partners to bring an all-new intellectual property to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 under the Electronic Arts label.
In the studio’s sixteen-year history, they’ve only developed games for the PlayStation console brand. This marks their first ever multiplatform release.
The developer is known for creating the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series on PlayStation. They developed the earlier Spyro the Dragon games before Sony sold off the IP, as well.
“Working with EA Partners allows us to extend the reach of our games to a multiplatform audience while retaining ownership of the intellectual property,” said Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games.
EA Partners senior vice president and general manager Dave DeMartini thinks that the multiplatform shift will welcome “millions” of new Insomniac fans.
“Insomniac is renowned for their commitment to quality and their ability to create unique, exciting worlds for gamers to explore. We look forward to help them bring their next blockbuster franchise to the millions of diehard Insomniac fans on PlayStation and the soon to be millions of diehard Insomniac fans on Xbox 360.”
