Modern Warfare 2 has broken a new Guinness World Record, Activision revealed today. The Infinity Ward sequel is now on record as the biggest new entertainment launch of all time, grossing over $401.6 million on its first day of sales worldwide when it launched back in November 2009.
The record was previously held by Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, which earned $310 million on its first day of sales (source).
“This achievement is a reflection of the support from our community of fans around the world,” said Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling from developer Infinity Ward. “The Call of Duty series and Modern Warfare have been our passion – we’ve dedicated our lives to giving our best, so it’s an honor to be recognized by setting a new standard among all entertainment properties.”
Congratulations, Infinity Ward and Activision. This is an achievement to be proud of.
