Happy 15th Birthday, PlayStation!
Fifteen years ago on December 3, 1994, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan released a system known as the PlayStation in Japan. From there on out, the platform rocked the gaming world evolving today into the PlayStation 3.
Thanks to the PlayStation brand, we’ve seen countless hits like Kingdom Hearts, Gran Turismo, Ico, Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot… all these wouldn’t have been possible were it not for Sony and their daring leap to video game platforms on a disc-based system.
Look how successful the brand has become fifteen years later. Sony has gotten up a celebratory website detailing their consoles’ history (it’s all in Japanese, though), which is worth a look.
Man, I remember when I first got my PlayStation – the hours I would spend on that thing. Crash Bandicoot was the first game I remember getting, then there were gems like Spyro, Tony Hawk, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil. It was a great time to be a gamer and it still is today.
Happy 15th, PlayStation. We look forward to fifteen years more.
