ModNation Racers is a PS3 exclusive because PSN is free

Free is always better than expensive. Would you rather pay a buck for a Butterfinger or get one for free? I think if we had the (legit) choice, it’d be free. That’s exactly the reason United Front is developing ModNation Racers exclusively for PlayStation 3, because the PlayStation Network is free for everyone to play on.
“As we were coming up with what we were doing and what we wanted to create, we spoke to some different publishers and immediately there was this sort of synergy between us and Sony,” said ModNation Racers producer Dan Sochan in an interview with Edge. “And in terms of the hardware, the power of the PS3 and the PSN network being free — that we could make sure that everyone who buys a copy of the game is able to get online for free and then share all this content — were really important for us.
“For us it’s really a lot about the community feel and we feel that the PSN has a very strong community at present.”
Most people would argue that Xbox LIVE would be better for these sorts of things, online-wise. However, ensuring everybody can play online is where the PlayStation Network shines. Now Sony just needs to add the functionality Xbox LIVE already has to really get it moving.
Thanks, DToid.
