3D Dot Game Heroes detailed in-depth by Japanese press
The Japanese press was given a chance to try out FromSoftware‘s upcoming 3D retro PlayStation 3 RPG, 3D Dot Game Heroes, during an event at the 8bit Cafe in Shinjuku today. 4Gamer has detailed their playthrough.
3D Heroes features two types of main characters to play as: a hero and a prince. Female players can chose to play as a female hero or princess. A “traveling student” joins these two, as well.
When you start the game, you’ll pick one of these characters as your player, and are free to change characters at load screens. When changing characters, you still keep your items, etc. Some characters are better with swords and some are better with magic.
The game’s combat has been detailed as well. Circle swings your player’s swords, X uses your secondary weapon, and R1 raises your shield. 4Gamer describes the feeling of combat as something similar to Legend of Zelda.
The game’s story lasts around 24 to 30 hours. However, adding in the game’s item collection aspect, a hard difficulty mode, and a “secret character mode”, the game could last up to 60 hours.
Regarding downloadable content, during a Q&A session with game producer Masanori Takeuchi from FromSoftware and producer Kouji Tsuboi from Silicon Studio, they said that there are currently no plans, but it could change in the future if fans of the game want it.
Takeuchi closed the briefing with the following message: “As someone who makes PlayStation 3 games, I’ve gotten the feeling that there are too many games that have the same look. I know there are gamers who want to play something a bit different. This title is one of our answers for that.”
3D Dot Game Heroes is currently 80% complete with only 20% to go. The game’s set to release in Japan on November 5, 2009. New screens have been released, check them out at the gallery.
Thanks, Andriasang.
