Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 “Team Mission Mode” Detailed, Dated
Team Ninja has provided new information on the upcoming PlayStation 3 remake of last year’s Xbox 360 title, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. They’ve responded to the complaints about the toned-down violence and gore in the PlayStation 3 in comparison to the Xbox 360 version.
“Our goal is to create one of most challenging action games and we believe that can be achieved without all of attention going to the amount of blood that is used throughout the game. (Not to mention the fact that ESRB advertising guidelines do NOT allow decapitation in trailers even if the game is rated “M†for Mature, so we haven’t been able to include any footage of that in our trailers…dismemberment is allowed, but no decapitation.)”
Team Ninja’s also provided some updates on the game, which includes new costumes for the main characters. Some examples that have been provided show Ryu in a Falcon costume and Momiji in a Training costume. The new costumes can be seen at the gallery.
As for the game’s unlockables, over fifty trophies will be obtainable in the game: 38 bronze, 10 silver, 2 gold and 1 platinum. There are new trophies in Sigma in comparison to the original game that involve the new playable characters as well as the new co-op mode.
A “Team Missions” co-op mode is being introduced in this game similar to Sigma 1‘s “Mission Mode”, except with a friend this time. The goal is to destroy all enemies in sight and perform well with your partner. There are over thirty misssions with selectable difficulties. You select your character, weapon, ninpo and costume. You’re not allowed to use items in this mode and you can encounter multiple bosses at the same time. However, if one player dies, it’s game over for both of you. Your partner will have a chance to revive you though before death and be signaled when your health is low.
An AI can be used if you don’t have a friend to play with. Two of the same characters can be selected, so it’s possible to play as two Ryus.
As for the final announcement, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will release September 29, 2009 and GameStop’s getting an exclusive pre-order costume. Get pumped.
