PlayStation Cloud to make PlayStation Network more social? (Update: fake)
Update: That was fast. Jeff Rubenstein has debunked this via IGN. “This ‘mockup’ is pure conjecture,” Rubenstein said. “This is 100 percent fake.” Oh well.
Original Story: A bit back in March, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan trademarked the name “PS Cloud”. Today, GameTrailers.com forum member GiantEnemyCrab posted a supposed leaked image along with information from a “very trusted source” who works for Sony about this PlayStation Cloud.
According to the post, PlayStation Cloud is your portal to the PlayStation Network. It will feature access to all your data and information.
• Save game data.
• PlayStation Home data.
• PlayStation Network game statistics.
• Registered hardware and software.
• In-game screenshots.
• Videos captured using the YouTube uploading feature.
Also in the post, you’ll be able to access your game’s save data from any PlayStation 3 as long as the main console with that data is on to make sure there are not different versions of that data (I really don’t understand that one).
PlayStation Cloud will help PlayStation Network become more social, apparently. A news feed that tells you whats going on with your friends will tell you when they’ve gained a trophy, boosted a level, moved spaces in Home, what they’re playing, watching, etc.
A new group or “clan” system that can be compared to Facebook or Steam is being built into Cloud as well, which will allow you to create clans that can link with your Home club.
Cloud is also said to allow the streaming of videos and other media to your PlayStation 3, even allowing you to watch content on your hard-drive with PlayStation Network friends. However, doing this will send your friends into your Home space to watch it.
According to the source, this was supposed to be shown during E3, but wasn’t ready, but should released by the middle to the end of the summer.
