Rumor: Square Enix to Announce ‘Rapture’ MMO for PS3 and PC at E3

Square Enix is preparing three game announcements for this year’s E3 in Los Angeles next week. We’ve already speculated on two of them, but now we have a little insight as to what the third may be.

Contrary to prior reports, Square Enix will be holding a press conference at 11am on Wednesday. This will pave way to new information and media for one of Square Enix’s unannounced games, an MMORPG codenamed Rapture, which is apparently in development for PlayStation 3 and PC. The game is to be revealed at the Sony Press Conference taking place on Tuesday.

It may seem odd at first, but the PlayStation 3 and PC have more open support when it comes to online interactivity between software and gamers. Take a look at what Epic did with Unreal Tournament III, focusing on the PlayStation 3 and PC launch because of Sony’s open-territory that is the PlayStation Network, setting them back no limits.

Right now this is just a rumor, but I think I can put my money on this one as it was rumored towards the end of 2008, as well.
