Brash Entertainment went bankrupt and Konami bought the rights for a video-game based on the movie Saw off of their grave. The game will launch this fall on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC coinciding the release of Sav VI in movie theaters.
Konami has hopes that Saw will become their second survival horror franchise next to Silent Hill.
“Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we’re passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with ‘Silent Hill,” explained David Daniels, director of marketing for Konami.
Konami bought the rights to Saw off of Brash after they went bankrupt, then wrangled up developer Zombie, which was handling production on the game originally for Brash, to finish Saw under the law of Konami.
The game will not follow the plot of the movie, creating an original story. Players will take control of a character in an asylum who decides to save the victums of Jigsaw.
There’s another screenshot at the link. The game sounds like it’s shaping up nicely, and it will be very gory, explains Konami. “‘Silent Hill’ is more about psychological terror, but ‘Saw’ for us is more about graphic, intense horror that overwhelms you,” explained Daniels. “We want players to turn away from the screen for just a moment because of the visual intensity.”
