First God of War III Details from GameInformer
SCE Santa Monica is really going out with their upcoming God of War III for the PlayStation 3. The game will allow you to hop on and control mythical beasts, such as Cyclops, as well as a bunch of other new mechanics.
The latest GameInformer reveals that the team is really trying to harness what the PlayStation 3 can accomplish. “We want this to be the game that shows people what the PS3 can do,” game director Stig Asmussen told the magazine.
Titans will play a bigger role in this game, whereas in previous games they were restricted to cutscenes only. Kratos, in comparison to the titans, is just a tiny set of pixels. Titans are “not just a set piece anymore; it’s a living, breathing character,” added Asmussen.
Krtaos is getting a big upgrade himself, four times the upgrade as a matter of fact. “Kratos on PS2 was probably about 5,000 polygons, and now he’s 20,000,” said art director Ken Feldman. “We wouldn’t even be able to load him on PS2.” Kratos still carries with him the scars he’s obtained in previous games, as well as some of the abilities he’s already acquired, like Golden Fleece and Icarus Wings.
Kratos’ skill-set has expanded to include a wider array of combos and grapples and environmental interaction such as smashing creatures’ heads into walls. A new supernatural magic-type has been announced, as the Gods are no longer friends of Kratos and he will have to draw his magic from somewhere else.
New weapons will be present in God of War III as well. Santa Monica studios promises that each weapon will be significantly different from each other rather than just being a stat upgrade. One weapon includes the Cestus gantlets, which spout spiked balls on chants from their animal mouths, causing shockwaves that throw enemies backward per each hit.
As for enemies, where in PS2 you saw 12 to 15 enemies on screen, God of War III features somewhere closer to 50. Enemies will be able to jump on Kratos and bring him to the floor. In order to stop this, you must use the analog stick.
Santa Monica Studios confirmed that there will be a boss battle against ruler of the Underworld, Hades. They also confirmed there is no multiplayer, but there is a possibility for downloadable content in the future.
