If you’ve checked out PlayStation Home, you may have come across the $0.49 (real money) cost on all clothing and accessories you purchase at the mall. Do you really want to pay to dress up a virtual avatar? Sony believes so, but Microsoft does not.
“I don’t think there’s where you’re going to see a tremendous amount of revenue,†said Xbox product manager Aaron Greenberg. Recently, Xbox LIVE members received a winter clothing pack free of charge, being Microsoft’s first avatar clothing pack as well.
Microsoft wants gamers to get new avatar clothing by unlocking them through whatever game they’re playing. Developers have the tools in their hands to do this already and it’s only a matter of time. When will we see it? “As soon as developers get it done,†Greenberg said.
