Owlboy for Xbox LIVE Arcade: First Gameplay Released
D-Pad Studio are currently developing an Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC title called Owlboy. You may have never heard of it because it is an indie title. Titles like these should receive more attention. You’ve seen the success of Braid, Everyday Shooter, and World of Goo, have you not?
The game features a pretty cool system of expressions which will basically pop up everytime you meet someone new. D-Pad’s Simon Andersen tells us “hen you meet someone new, at some point in the conversation, you’ll be prompted to respond to a statement. You can then select between a happy, sad or angry expression, which should cover all of the basic responses you can give. The point is to change people’s attitude towards you. For example, you might want someone on your side so they’ll give you an item, or possibly become your new gunner. He might love attention, so you smile and nod. Maybe someone wants only be friends with tough people, so you put on your angry face. Some are easy to win over, but if a person could grant you a rare ability, they’ll be really tricky to win over.”
The gameplay is a vertical 2D SNES-looking game. There is a gunner system which allows you to get an ally with a gun that you carry with you.
There’s a full interview on the game over at Destructoid. However, D-Pad have released the first gameplay footage today. View that below.
