Obama Elected 44th United States President
Barack Obama, a 47-year-old Senator of Illinois, has been elected the 44th president of the United States this evening. He won with 297 electoral votes versus his Republican opponent John McCain’s 146. He’s about to make his victory speech in Grant Park, so if you care to tune-in, turn your clickers to one of the local stations or possibly CNN. For full details on his victory, check out MSNBC.
The reason I post this is because this is a truly historical event for the United States of America. We have our first African-American president taking office in January. Let me clear it for those who don’t know, however, he is half Caucasian and half African-American.
Update: From his victory speech: “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
