With Double Helix Games acquired by Amazon, one might wonder what will become of Killer Instinct, the studios’ Microsoft-commissioned fighter for Xbox One. According to Microsoft, the game will continue its expansion with a new development partner.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor,” a Microsoft rep told Polygon. “We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”

Killer Instinct launched for Xbox One on November 22, but has been receiving new character updates since. This year should bring a second season of updates, as well.

This is scary I gotta admit. This is the game that sold me my xb1 the most. I love fighting games and double helix listened to the fans unlike some of the other big companies. They will still have rich so that’s good.

Double Helix did an amazing job at KI, dammit! Now you’ll put someone that never dealt with the game to keep developing it?

    it’ll be a disaster

I was wondering how this would go down, after we learnt of Amazon’s purchase.. That’s pretty hilarious.
