Live broadcast and play remotely on PlayStation 4.

Square Enix shared a first look at the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn at the PlayStation Awards in Japan this morning.

The one-minute video shows producer and director Naoki Yoshida live broadcasting a game, game pad / keyboard and mouse mode, and PS Vita remote play.

Watch the clip below.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is due out on PlayStation 4 in April 2014. A beta is scheduled to begin on February 22.

No screenshots? And a 720p offscreen video? meh

    • Pyrofrost

      Really, 720p?
I find that odd considering the PS4 version will be 1080p

      • http://kougeru.tumblr.com/ Kougeru

Did they confirm that? I wouldn’t be surprised if a “launch window” MMO is only 720p

        • Pyrofrost

It’s releasing with the PC DX11 update and was confirmed to run at 60fps and be 1080p on the PS4.

          • Budgiecat

But the textures and polygons will still be the same

            • bloodiOS

              Same as what?

            • Pyrofrost

PS3 isn’t capable of showing a lot of the animations and such that the PC can. While there won’t be a HUGE difference. There will be a significant one, like the differences in aesthetics in the PC and PS3 version.

Also, all three versions are independent of each other developmentally, (ie: neither is a port of another). So they can do graphics updates and stuff like that, which likely won’t be done on the PS3 version. The PS3 version won’t be holding the game back on graphics, content, and mechanic based things.
This was one of the lessons they learned from an FFXI mistake.

              • Budgiecat

Yeah but with PS4 version you can play with people that have a PS3 and PC version thats just weird how all that works if theres such graphical differences

                • Pyrofrost

This is true; but I have to say, I am really glad it works that way. It makes for a far better experience.

The one thing I really hate is the fact that Yoshida opted to give the servers region labels. While I understand the necessity of that with data center locations and issues of latency, I miss the days where everyone played together.

Forget that. Let’s start pushing out 4K quality for PS4 :3

        • Pyrofrost

Psht. I’m not even worried about that. Those won’t be affordable till we’re pushing into the PS5 xD

It would be cool, but it would do me no good xD

          • bloodiOS

I’m thinking PS6… PS5 would be when 1080p@60fps becomes the industry’s standard and VR is introduced as an essential part of console gaming ;)

            • Pyrofrost

1080p and 60fps isn’t going to be the standard on the PS4?

I assumed it would be since 720p was the standard and 3D, 60fps, and 1080p was a luxury on the PS3.

It would be interesting to see how VR will be introduced though. An attempt at that reminds me of the VirtualBoy for some reason xD

              • bloodiOS

1080p and 60fps isn't going to be the standard on the PS4?I assumed it would be since 720p was the standard and 3D, 60fps, and 1080p was a luxury on the PS3.

I had hoped for it to be the case but so far we see a lot of 30fps titles (with quite a few from 1st-party), so it would appear that 60fps is far from being the standard on the PS4. On the resolution side, one title even went down as far as 900p to maintain 60fps, so yeah, even that 1080p bottom line isn’t looking too secured on the PS4…

                • Pyrofrost

                  That makes me sad :(
Are the devs just no cooperating or something?

                  • bloodiOS

That’s just the trade-off of continuously pushing the graphics, I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • bloodiOS

Better yet, this is what FlamemetalionGaming, the uploader of the video has to say:

"The video is not in HD, but I accidently rendered it in 720p........"

      • Pyrofrost

So likey, what Yoshida was playing was in 1080p, but the youtube video was 720?

        • bloodiOS

Nah, this guy probably grabbed this footage from the PSA stream (which, I assume, is probably 480p or 360p) and just accidentally re-encoded the video at 720p. We really don’t have anything to worry about though, Square Enix will release the official 1080p footage soon enough.

          • Pyrofrost

This is true mate, and thanks for letting me know ^_^

      • http://zefhar.deviantart.com Zefhar

Phew… I thought there was something wrong with my browser/flash/youtube preferences/internet connection

  • JuhRo

    Dat Remote play..

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Looks like it will be pretty nice. I can use it with my Vita to do the smaller tasks such as mining, crafting, etc.

    • Pyrofrost

Lol, looks like you and I were thinking the same thing xD

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, I’d feel a little intimidated trying to run a 24 man dungeon or large F.A.T.E.s with over 100 players (see: Odin, Behemoth, Moogle King, etc.) on my Vita screen even though I’m sure it would display it properly since the Vita would only be used as a visual aid and not rely on its own hardware to render everything.

        • Pyrofrost

Yeah, I’m not confident in how well CT, BC, or EX Primals would work with that either.

So I would just work with stuff that I’m not worried would push things too hard. I would probably try a 4 man dungeon with guild mates who knew I was running on a Vita for a run.

  • Pyrofrost

Glad to seeing this game also capable of supporting remote play.

Sure it wouldn’t work worth a shit for end-game, primal battles, or possibly even dungeons. BUT it will be great for doing DoLs, DoHs, solo farming, or stuff like checking the Market Boards or Retainers.

  • bloodiOS

I hope Square Enix would release the official version of this video soon.

  • Jay

Compelling… Looks like PS4 will have a solid set of MMOs in the next few years. Hopefully Everquest Next also makes the list.

    • badmoogle

Yeah it will have an incredible list of RPGs in just one year (2014):
      FFXIV
      Elder Scrolls Online
      Deep Down
      The Witcher 3
      Dragon Age Inquisition
      Child of Light

4 of them are a must have for me (FFXIV,Deep Down,The Witcher 3,DA Inquisition)

      • Lelouch Vi Britannia

agreed and in a few years i look forward to the 20th Namco Tales title for PS4.

      • HighBrowDrifter

Don’t forget Kingdom Under Fire!…It sure looks mighty fine.

      • badmoogle

FFXV was a typo,i wanted to type FFXIV. :p

    • Budgiecat

As long as on the whole the PS4 doesn’t turn into “console iOS” then I’m fine with it…

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It’s an optional feature, yo. The PS3 has remote play too. Do you think of it as a “console iOS” too?

        Silly cat :p

  • HanPaul

Right after I order the PC version too…
Welp, at least I’ll have all the versions lol

  • Folk Hellfang

So if I buy this on sale for 10 bucks on PS 3 this week, do I still get the PS4 version for free?

    • GhostNomad

Wondering this as well. I’m torn between Rainbow Moon and this game on the PSN Sale. Only want to get FF for the PS4 version though so if this won’t carry over, might as well go with Rainbow Moon <.<

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

You get it for free and can no longer use the PS3 version

  • icup ✔️

once i reach the end game, i realized there’s nothing left but constant grinding… so i quit the game.

  • Elvick

Remote play grinding and farming. NEXT GEN! :D (am serious)
