Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes also has Xbox-only content

Though we don't know what is is yet.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has an exclusive “Deja Vu” mission on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. But it looks like Konami is providing the same treatment to Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners.

A sizzle real shown at the game’s launch event in Times Square last night mentions “Xbox Exclusive Content” when Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes appears.

Konami has yet to officially announce what this content is.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is due out in spring 2014.

Can’t stand it. Nope. Nope. NOPE.

It’s one thing when there’s time-exclusive content that eventually becomes available on all platforms. It’s another still to make definitive versions of a game for whatever platform down the line. But going to market with content-set x for platform x and content-set y for platform y, for it to remain that way indefinitely…. HEEELLLLS NO. That’s the sorta thing that just makes video games look like a big fat joke next to any other creative medium; they can be chopped up so easily and commodified. Same with the retailer-bonus shit. There’d better be a MGSV: Substantial somewhere down the line with GZ, Phantom Pain and all “exclusive content” together, same for all platforms on which it’s published.

I mostly agree with you completely. The only thing I think deserves exclusives still is PC because some things just are not possible with console hardware after a year or two and of course keyboard and mouse being best/the only way to play for certain genres. RTSs specifically. They’ve tried a lot on consoles but it just never works right.

      • EX+

The only platform that should have exclusives is the PC? Lol, what a joke.

        • Articuno76

What Kougeru is saying is that there isn’t any technically compelling reason (hardware) for exclusive content on consoles…well, unless it is Move/Kinect specific.

          • EX+

If @Kougeru:disqus meant it like that, then yes, I agree to an extent. I was reading: ‘The only thing I think deserves exclusives still is PC’.

            • Kougeru

You cut out the rest of the sentence, removing a lot of meaning out of it. Youre cherry picking. I’ll admit I should’ve used a better word than “Deserve”, though.

However, with the freedom we have over controls, mods, ect ect….PC gamers kind of do deserve a lot more than they get. PC games get held back for years because of consoles limitations. Devs hold themselves back to sell more copies by making their games weaker to support 8 year old technology instead of pushing all the time like they did in the early days.Proof of this is the fact that XBO/PS4 hardware is actually not that powerful compared to a mid-range PC (300-500 dollars) and yet the games look amazing. The devs are FINALLY pushing that technology because the new consoles are out. And in return for waiting for consoles to catch up, PC gamers get bad ports and very rarely games made for PC first and then for consoles. BF3/4 is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

They have Kinect for PC (not the new one though, yet though) so even Kinect isn’t really a valid reason for XB to get exclusives. Since both new consoles are on x64 architecture now, it makes even LESS sense for exclusives besides first party to exist. Again, the only reason I think PC exclusives are the only ones that should exist are because of hardware and control limitations. PCs can use any type of controller that you want.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

ps3 has K/Msupport so no exclusives for pceither

        • Kougeru

The hardware limitations will still exist in a few years.

      • BigDix

Well, keyboard and mouse support, sure thing. And fine to throw in a few little things like maybe a sound test, art gallery, or stuff previously released as DLC… Spruce it up too however much they feel necessary. Throwing in items/missions/story/characters/etc. exclusive to the PC though, as in not available by any means on any other platform, would still bug me.

That being said, throwing extra stuff into late-coming PC ports is not nearly as problematic as standing arms-spread open-palm as you plot what goes in what version of a game day one.

        • Kougeru

I phrased what I meant to say poorly due to not being fully awake. I didnt mean to say that PC should get exclusives that no one else can get for no reason at all. Only if there’s a technological limitation. 64 player maps in Battlefield franchise for example are just not possible on 360/PS3 and thus were fully exclusive to PC until PS4/XBO. Star Citizen seems to be in the same boat which is why they said if they allow cross-play and instant-patches they would make the game for PS4/XBO but that 360/PS3 would dumb it down too much and that they would not dumb it down to ruin the experience for PC gamers.

I absolutely cannot stand day-1/pre-order bonus exclusives. I often times cant afford to get a game day-1 and would end up either not being able to get the content, or having to pay extra for it later. It’s unfair to consumers.

But what I was talking about was exclusives at all in general. Outside of a technical limitation that only consoles have, I dont think exclusive games should exist. Obviously first-party games will force exclusives on everyone but third party companies that get paid to make exclusives are just trash to me. They dont care about the gamers and only care about money. With anything there’s a rare exception of course…this one being Japanese companies like Bamco and the Tales of series and other rather niche franchises from foreign studies. They have a specific fanbase that plays on a specific console (PlayStation in the case of Tales) so I can fully understand why they’d make that exclusive.

TLDR; I miss the days where making games was about bringing entertainment to as many people as possible instead of making as much money as possible.

    • Alkhan

I agree with everything except your screen name. Are you like 9 years old?

      • BigDix

        Oh lawd. Not this again…

It’s just one of many online handles, vomited on the spot in view of that fact. Suffice it to say, it’s not a question, not a proposition, not something you’re supposed to agree or disagree with — it’s just there, dude. Live and let live.

  • Impressionnant

Kojima, you cunt. I’d call him something that rhymes with “moo”, but I’d get banned.

    • TheExile285

    • EX+

I wouldn’t call him a cunt because he’s putting exclusive content on the XBO for MGSGZ (which you can bet MS paid out the ass for), but he has shown this desire to weave his way into the western gaming industry by showing up at E3 with MGSV at MS’ conference.

      • Budgiecat

his face looks like a rat

    • Zancrow

      Shoo? Coo? Snu Snu?

    • abysswalker

Haha you worry about the word that rhymes with “moo” but you say (write) cunt, priceless…

      • Impressionnant

People are more uppity when it comes to racial stuff.

  • captainhowdy

Sounds good. One exclusive content for each console. I’m alright with that.

  • $18114340

Exclusive Doritos and Mountain Dew in-game items?

    • abysswalker

Which if consumed will allow you to play as the old, fat and bald Snake in The Phantom Pain

  • EspadaKiller

Blah whatever. Doubt the DLC would be anything exciting though. Or else Kojima would have personally announced it too.

    • Bobby Jennings

Well that Deja Vu one wasn’t exactly good either..

      • EspadaKiller

Yeah you’re right. I don’t like the idea of Konami (or Kojima) screwing us with exclusive DLCs on both platforms. I mean c’mon. Gaming now is getting REALLY ridiculous with all these exclusive DLCs here and there.

        • Bobby Jennings

          I agree 100%.

  • Zackasaur

  • syaznifaiq

as long as this exclusive content don’t occur on the main game (MGSV phantom pain) , im okay with that coz im not gonna pay for a tutorial level .. probably just watching ground zeroes on youtube

  • Zero

I bet it’s something silly like Master Chief’s helmet for Snake to equip or his armor or something like that.

    • bloodiOS

I was thinking Master Chief’s cloak (the one he wore in H5’s reveal) ;)

  • bloodiOS

Heh, watch as Snake harnesses the infinite power of the cloud.

  • gekitsu

    jeez, whats the commotion, everybody?

when there is a game coming out for multiple platforms, its the wise (and proper) thing to do to have everyone have access to the important parts of the game. so naturally, the playstation exclusive content isnt “good” in terms of something highly important, or gameplay-changing, or game-expanding, or significant in any possible way. those are completely unreasonable expectations.

instead, its a nod towards something specific to the playstation as a platform. a gimmick. and probably its somewhat fun as well. (how cool would it be to have a go at the harsh mechanics of seen/unseen that we had prior to mgs3’s camo index? just for shits and giggles.)

that they will make something like this for the xbox seems cool enough to me. im actually interested what it will be, since metal gear doesnt have much history on that platform.

really guys. it sounds better (let alone more reasonable) when you think of it as a little fun extra, like the vr missions, snake vs. monkey or the snake tales, and dont expect serious dlc, and then act dismayed when it doesnt measure up to what you think serious, paid-for dlc should contain and how it should be distributed.

we are here for the games. they are supposed to be fun, not an excuse for getting ones underwear all bunched up at every occasion.
