Lightning Returns extended trailer features Noel
Noel appears to battle Lightning, for some reason or another.

Square Enix released an extended trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII this morning. I didn’t post it with the new screenshots because the download was 1.2 gigabytes, and I thought it was exactly the same as the last extended trailer. And for the most part, it is. But there is one new segment where Final Fantasy XIII-2 hero Noel appears battle Lightning, for some reason. Watch the clip below.

    If there’s one thing I hate in RPG sequels it’s when the main characters wear the same clothes. Especially when they take place hundreds of years after the previous games. wtf Noel?

      If I didn’t change my clothes for that long, I’d turn evil too.

      The best explanation I can think of is that he time traveled to this era from the end of XIII-2. Though if we take into account that his hair seems to be fading to gray/white, Square probably decided not to give him new clothes out of laziness. For continuity and common sense’s sake, let’s hope that this design isn’t final.

    Looks like they have different stance.
    Noel is definitely best male character in FFXIII series.
    I hope he will be added in next Dissidia as FFXIII representative.

    I’m sure he’s quite mad for a lot of various reasons, Lightning being a horrible sister; Serah dying, Serah being okay with Lightning being a horrible sister, Lightning screwing up things with Caius and Yuel.

    I think can make a whole list of these..

    This is from the IGN article posted today.

    “While it’s been confirmed previously that Snow Villiers will crop up, as will Hope Estheim, offering Lightning advice via comlink, it’s been newly revealed that Noel Kreiss will also have a role to play. Unlike Hope and Snow though, the chaotic energy generated by the imminent end of the world has corrupted him, meaning it’s up to Lightning to save the man she once fought alongside by putting him down.”

    So, the “chaos” has turned Noel into a bad guy it seems.

      Yeah. In NovaCrystallis preview, it implied that its not just Noel Lightning will knock some sense into.

      Thanks for the info. Though I’m hesitant to label Noel a bad guy. The scene shows him refusing to accept Lightning as the real deal, and as a result thinks this alleged doppelganger is what’s causing the current clusterfuck xD

      Though interesting that Chaos could warp him so much, especially since his goal to be a guardian required having Chaotic powers. Hmm….
