Ueda "committed to completing" The Last Guardian.

Fumito Ueda has left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, Sony has confirmed to Gamasutra.

The confirmation comes following rumors late last month that the Ico creator had departed the company to pursue personal projects.

While Ueda is no longer working as a Sony employee, he is “committed to completing” The Last Guardian as a freelancer.

Ueda created two PlayStation 2 classics during his time with Sony: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The Last Guardian is set to be the third in his trilogy.

as long as he’s still finishing the game, he can do whatever he wants

Yep, this game is never coming out.

Oh well at least I have Ico/SoC HD to keep me happy, time to move on.

@dmysta3000: Have faith, you can’t rush art.

this explains the delay of the game for PS3

Why would he leave?Sony lets him do whatever he wants even though his games dont sell well.seriously wtf?

@KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler: Maybe he’s just tired of being director?

It could be anything. Being a director is a huge responsibility. Maybe he wants to tone it down a little.

If it’s on good terms, all the best to Ueda and the ICO team.

To me, as long as the game gets finished and it turns out fun, then I’m okay with this. However, I’m not going to hold it against him or anything if The Last Guardian doesn’t get finished.

At lot of people have been saying this so now I’m curious. Is it really true Sony lets him do whatever he wants? Are they just saying that because his other games don’t sell that great, yet Sony still keeps him?

@Jackle: Yeah sony is pretty well known for letting its 1st party devs do near anything they want.
