Disney offers $454m to purchase Ignition parent
Company interested in Bollywood filmsThe Walt Disney Company has offered UTV Software Communications, the parent company of Ignition Entertainment, $454 million for full acquisition of the company. Disney currently owns 50.4 percent of UTV.
Disney’s main interest in the company is UTV’s selection of Bollywood films and TV shows. Though, a full acquisition of the company would also put Ignition in Disney’s hands.
Ignition recently underwent its own transition, closing all game development studios, remaining only as a publisher of externally-developed titles. At least two projects, known to be Reich and WarDevil, were canceled in the shift.
Disney’s games division, however, has a different outlook. It recently shuttered its core games studios, Black Rock and Propaganda Games, in favor of a social game outlook. It currently houses Playdom and Penguin Games.
We’ll have more on this as it develops.
Thanks, Develop.
