Dragon Quest X for Wii U is free to download in Japan until March 31

Play online free for 20 days, or offline free forever.

The Wii U version of Dragon Quest X: Awakening of the Five Tribes Online is free to download on the Japanese Nintendo eShop in Japan starting today and lasting until March 31 at 23:59 Japan time, Square Enix announced.

The game download is 24 gigabytes. To play online requires a monthly fee, but you can play for free for the first 20 days from when you input your registration code. Otherwise, the game’s offline mode is playable free of charge.

The Dragon Quest X Online expansions Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Sworn Friend Online and Dragon Quest X: Lore of the Ancient Dragon Online are not included with this free download, and will need to be purchased separately should you want to continue the story.
